Titleist AVX review- Richard Scott
Published on 8th August 2018 in Guests NewsI’ve used Titleist Pro VI or Pro VIx balls as my stock ball for many years. Every so often whether it be through curiosity, recommendation or the weight of marketing hype, I’ll try alternatives. Generally this happens in the colder months when the greens – whether poa, poa/bent or pure bent, are a little softer and the indisputable performance of the Pro V1 isn’t as important around the greens. Almost without fail I revert to the Pro V1 as the promise of performance from most other balls simply isn’t there.
To have Titleist promote a ball at the same price point as Pro V1 and yet not be from the Pro V1 stable was intriguing and, on the recommendation of my trusted club professional, I recently tried them. The AVX is a well behaved, predictable performance ball, a fine complement to the Titleist range. The AVX is longer than the Pro V with a lower trajectory for woods and long irons. It has a familiar solid feel with all clubs and whilst a low spin ball, it provides excellent control with full wedge shots. On delicate chips and bunker shots there is noticeably less spin – but something that simply has to be allowed for. They are fabulous to putt with and keep their appearance even after a few visits to the sand.
Certainly worth trying
