SVGC Footy Tipping – Round 1 Wrap from Crocodile Mick
Published on 21st March 2023 in Latest News, Public Latest NewsAtelihai Tipsters,
Amazingly, two tipsters got nine winners this week and they are both Collingwood supporters. Another ten clever footy heads got 8 winners.
Most of us struggled, as the average for the week was 6 winners. Which, I suppose, is a bit like getting 28 points in stableford.
The outright winner is SVGC board member, Matthew Delahunty. He wins a bottle of red wine and a dozen ProV1s.
Matthew’s dog Bazza is also a Collingwood supporter and they have a long conversation each week to determine their picks, which explains his success.
Matthew has been a member for 34 years and he is writing a history of the club for our 75th anniversary.
Would you believe Matthew nearly drowned in quicksand while playing golf at Spring Valley?
In his own words: “When I was a young lad in the summer of 1991, I was playing at Spring Valley by myself late one afternoon. There was hardly anyone on the course. On the 17th, my second shot ended up in Dunlop’s Drain (the storm water drain that runs up the left hand side). My ball was sitting at the base of the drain on bare ground which appeared baked dry and cracked by the summer sun. However, looks can be deceiving. I stepped down onto the base and next thing I knew I was waist-deep in quicksand. For a minute or two, I tried to climb out but I was stuck, with nobody around to help. Slowly sinking further, I managed to fling my upper body against the bank with enough momentum to push up with my arms and get out. My trousers were covered in brown mud. I trudged back to the clubhouse where, still covered in mud, I was greeted by the Club pro of the time, Doug Horne. I expected Doug would have some sympathy for me after my “near-death experience” (or at least a towel), but upon hearing my story he simply burst out laughing.”
Kylie Abela was just behind Matthew on margin and for this she wins SFA except her picture in the weekly wrap up.
Kylie is another lifelong Collingwood supporter and comes from a family of them!
She has been at SVGC nearly 3 years and is really enjoying the club and particularly the lovely ladies! (Editor’s note: Spring Valley is an inclusive club).
Her most heartbreaking footy moment was last year’s prelim final when poor Collingwood lost to Sydney by a point! Kylie was watching it from her holiday house at El Questro in the Kimberley with a room full of Sydney supporters, so needless to say she needed a few drinks to calm herself down that night.
But great tipping, Kylie!
Happy tipping next week to all, and don’t forget 23 weeks is a long time in footy!
