Report by Jan Draper- Team Manager
A tough match in very windy conditions saw the girls coming away with a nail-biting draw. Well played to all and thanks to our caddies Julie Sheldrake, Margaret Wilcox, Lois Barnett, Cathy Chen and Jan Kreymborg.
Marilyn Anderson lead out the team against Centenary Park this week at Riversdale. Her longer hitting opponent got a few puts in first and put Marilyn on the back foot where she stayed most of the round. Marilyn managed to win a couple of par threes when her opponent got stuck in greenside bunkers. Unfortunately, her Centenary Park opponent won on the 16th hole with a 4/2 win despite Marilyn trying hard to get in touch.
Rhea Martin’s game consisted of long drives, a variety of approaches which had improved and solid putting which was good to see. She was 3 up after nine and went on to win 4/3.
Jan Draper started off a little nervous however that competitive nature soon came to the fore. She hit some beautiful straight, long shots, and even though her competitor did some fantastic drives – Jan managed to get her second shot off so well. Jan had to give 4 shots which put pressure on but Jan didn’t give into it and won 2/1. It was a lovely game, the bunkers keeping both girls honest. The par three’s I think were Jan’s best holes – great shots up the hills and good putts.
Ann Tolliday played solidly today given the gusty conditions. It was an extremely close match the whole way and both Ann and her opponent hit the ball well. However, Ann’s opponent dealt with conditions a little better and a good chip and a straight putt meant Ann lost 3/1 on the 17th.
Denise played from behind all day but managed to even up the score when she reached the 17th hole. With both teams watching on as this was the deciding match Denise put a lovely shot on the green. Denise put in a short putt which we thought would win her the match but alas her opponent sunk her 10-foot putt to even the score. A good match and well done Denise for hanging in there.
