Disciplinary Committee Established
Published on 29th June 2019 in Guests NewsThe Board has established a Disciplinary Committee to hear complaints regarding member behaviour. Obviously, we expect the process to be little used, but it is important to have a process in place in the event that incidents arise.
Members will be familiar with tribunal hearings such as occur in most sports. The arrangements adopted by golf clubs differ in that they are internally focussed, but they must provide proper procedures and transparency which are fair for all parties.
Our new By-Laws and the guidelines provided to the Disciplinary Committee, recognise the essential requirements of procedural fairness (or “natural justice”).
The members of the Disciplinary Committee will not be board members but will be appointed by the Board, recognising the necessary golf and other qualifications and experience required.
For those interested in understanding the details of the changes, we have attached the following:
- A summary explanation of the procedures;
- The amendments to the Club By-Laws;
- A flowchart explaining the steps, and
- The guidelines for the Disciplinary Committee.
The copy of the By-Laws provided in the Club Documents section of the website will incorporate these changes after some other unrelated and outdated provisions are reviewed and amended.
While the changes to establish a Disciplinary Committee will operate immediately, there will be amendments proposed at the AGM in October to clarify the operation of these changes in the Constitution. These changes require a special resolution of members.
