June Course Management Report

Greens

The greens have recovered well from the recent renovations in May. As the soil temperature gets colder at this time of year the growth slows dramatically which gives us a chance to incorporate more rolling of greens. All greens were sprayed with fungicide 3 weeks ago however the 15thgreen is showing signs of winter fusarium, as soon as we get a break in the weather we will spray this green and follow up on all the greens with a different fungicide as part of our rotation program. Needle tine aeration will continue every 6-8 weeks through winter as well as regular dusting as the weather allows. The greens are due to be fertilized next week with Iron Magnesium Potassium Fish & seaweed.

Fairways

All the fairways were fertilized with a foliar application of Nitrogen Iron & magnesium in the past months, this will ensure they are as health as possible going into dormancy.

Spot spraying of kikuyu and Paspalum commenced last month with which we have nearly finished. This will require a follow up application in early spring.

Bunkers

In the past month we have worked on removing moss which is growing on faces usually in shaded areas. Levelling of floors in high traffic bunkers continues. Spot spraying of weeds in bunkers has been ongoing as well.

Rough

After a mix up with our seed order we still haven’t yet seeded the rough areas on holes 7, 8, 18 where we sprayed the Paramatta grass last year. I have been assured our seed will arrive this week which we will put out as soon as we get it.

Kikuyu

A follow up application of Drive is due to be sprayed in the rough. Wet and windy weather has not allowed us to spray this yet. As soon as the weather allows we will get this out.

Tree work

Pruning of low hanging branches and trees impacting the line of play will be pruned back over the course of winter as well as the list of dead trees to be removed.

Next month contractors will remove all the self-sown Mahogany gums growing along the Heatherton road fence line next to the power lines as well as removing several Black woods growing around the big golf ball.

1st tee levelling & Irrigation upgrade

Starting at the end of July, the 1st tee will be out of play for at least a month. We will remove the turf, laser level and upgrade the irrigation. This job will be completed within our resource capacity except for the laser levelling.

Proposed Class A recycled water for the city of Kingston

A proposal is being put to the Kingston City council, South East Water and Vic roads to discuss the possibility of bringing Class A recycled water to the green wedge areas north and south of Heatherton/Kingston Road. There is an opportunity to have a pipe installed during the construction of the Mordialloc bypass which will run from the end of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road to the Dingley Bypass which is due to start in mid-2019 and completed by late 2021. Representatives from Neighbouring golf courses and market gardens are meeting with South East Water, Vic Roads & the Kingston City council to discuss the proposal.
