Congratulations to the pair of Christopher Rosinski and Stan Koczwara for the win in the finals of the Philip Courtney Match Play Championship today.
Christopher and Stan paired up well for a 5/3 win over Matt Shotton and James Marsh.
The 2018 Phillip Courtney final was played between the team of Stan Koczwara hcp 26 Chris Rosinski hcp 15 and the team of Matt Shotton hcp 21 and James Marsh hcp 12.
The following excerpt summary was provided by Damian and Margaret Wilcox, both kindly offered their time to referee the match.
After a good start by both teams the match was square after 3 holes.
Hole 4 saw Stan make a lovely par nett 3 after a wayward drive onto a sandy lie, James realized that par was not good enough when giving your opponents shots.
On hole 5 Chris chipped close enough to putt for par and take his team to 2 up.
Hole 6 was halved in 5’s.
Hole 7 Matt stepped up with a lovely drive, strong second shot and put his third next to the pin. Not to be out done Chris dropped his birdie putt but this is handicap match play and Matt’s 4 became a nett 3 winning the hole.
On hole 8 Chris got his revenge and the match went back to Stan and Chris 2 up.
On 9 the old golf adage “drive for show putt for dough” came true again when after a wonderful 280 metre drive Matt was out putted by Stan going to 3 down.
Hole 10 was James’ after putting his tee shot onto the green and dropping a lovely birdie back to 2 down.
Hole 12 saw a putting contest with both teams putting brilliantly but Stan and Chris coming out on top going to 3 up.
Hole 13 halved in pars.
Hole 14 was a sad affair for the team of Matt and James: James mishit from tee Matt mishit his chip and the team of Stan and Chris were dormie 4.
Hole 15 was do or die for Matt and James but Stan was not letting them in with even a sniff. With a good tee shot and a slightly lucky second and the only one with a shot he won the hole and took the match 5/3.
Congratulations to all four men for reaching the final and playing it in good spirits.
Further congratulations go to Stan Koczwara and Chris Rosinski who combined very well to take the Phillip Courtney trophy.
