Published on 22nd March 2024 in Celebrating our Legends, Club Events, Guests News, Latest News, Public Latest NewsFor over half a century, Kenn Buckley has been an integral part of the fabric of Spring Valley Golf Club, embodying the spirit of loyalty and camaraderie that defines our community. On Wednesday 27th March, we celebrate Kenn’s enduring commitment and cherished memories, we reflect on his remarkable journey through the club’s history.
Kenn’s connection with Spring Valley runs deep, beginning in 1968 when he first stepped onto our fairways. Introduced by his father, who was also a proud member, Kenn fondly recalls a time when generations of fathers and their sons roamed our grounds, forging lasting bonds.
Throughout the decades, Kenn has witnessed the evolution of Spring Valley, from its humble beginnings to the vibrant community it is today. He reminisces about pivotal moments, such as watching the legendary Gary Player grace our course in ’68, leaving an indelible mark by shattering club records.
Reflecting on the past, Kenn also fondly recalls the quaint charm of our club, where warmth and sociability were ever-present. He recalls the old clubhouse, with its double-storey structure and inviting balcony, where post-round gatherings offered panoramic views of the sprawling course.
But amidst all the changes, Kenn’s loyalty remained unwavering. Over the years, he celebrated life’s milestones within our club’s embrace, from his parents’ golden wedding anniversary to his daughter’s joyous 21st birthday. And as he marked his own 70th journey around the sun, Spring Valley stood as a steadfast companion, echoing with the laughter of friends and family.
Kenn’s devotion to Spring Valley is matched only by that of his beloved wife, June, a stalwart member of forty years herself. Together, they have woven a rich tapestry of memories, sharing in the joys and triumphs of our community.
As we gather on the 27th to raise a glass in Kenn’s honour, let us pay tribute to a man whose presence has enriched our lives and whose legacy will endure for generations to come. Cheers to Kenn —a true embodiment of the Spring Valley spirit.
