Introducing Carys Little
We are thrilled to introduce you to Carys Little, a bright and passionate young member of our community who is taking meaningful steps towards environmental sustainability right here at Spring Valley Golf Club. At just 12 years old and a student at Balcombe Grammar School, Carys has embarked on a mission to make a positive impact on our environment, specifically within the realm of golf.
Did you know that abandoned golf balls can take up to 1,000 years to decompose? Carys certainly does, and she’s determined to tackle this issue head-on. Recognising the environmental harm caused by discarded golf balls, Carys has envisioned a solution that not only reduces waste but also contributes to a more sustainable future for our beloved sport.
Carys’s project involves the establishment of a designated collection point for unwanted or used golf balls right here at Spring Valley Golf Club. You can find the wooden bin with the grass top conveniently located near the Buggy Storage room outside the Golf Service Centre. We encourage all members to support Carys’s initiative by dropping their unwanted golf balls into this bin.
But the impact of Carys’s project doesn’t end there. We are excited to announce that the collected golf balls will be responsibly managed through our partnership with Golf Recycling Australia. These balls will be collected, graded, and repurposed to create furniture and pathways, minimizing their environmental footprint. Additionally, any graded balls suitable for resale will provide a small reimbursement to the club, with all proceeds being donated to the Heritage fund.
By participating in Carys’s project, you’re not only helping to keep our golf course pristine but also contributing to a more sustainable future for generations to come. Let’s join hands in supporting Carys’s vision and making a difference together.
Thank you for your participation and commitment to sustainability.
