Men’s Pennant
Spring Valley vs Eastern @Nothern Golf Club
A turn in the weather saw the men’s pennant team tackle a heavy and wet Northern Golf Club, with a win meaning we will stay right there in the race for a finals spot.
The first few matches were tight contests, with Jono, Caleb and Damo all showing grit to get 3 points on the board for the Valley early. After being 5 down early Anthony Cecchi battled hard, but just fell short of a very strong player for Eastern. Nerve was shown by Captain Scott Hooper to make a clutch putt on 18 to get the 4th win on the board in a 1up victory. The last two matches were over very quickly as a tactic from Eastern to swap there order backfired and left Sid Nadimpalli (8&6) and Daniel Beckman (7&5) comfortable wins to secure a 7/1 victory for Spring Valley.
All roads lead to Keysborough Golf Club as a good win against Eynesbury, could see Spring Valley make a appearance in the Division 3 finial. Would be great to see a few members get down to support the men, as they make their charge at the flag.
Youth Pennant
Spring Valley vs Kew Golf Club
Similarly to the men the youth encountered rough weather conditions at Patterson River, amplified by the pressure of taking on the the top of the table Kew Golf Club .
There were a few new faces in the youth team like Jarrod Hewitt that played very consistently to get a halved match, another halved match came from stalwart Max Delaney on 18. The other three matches were all tightly contested making it the 15th or more, promoted player Jeffery Jiang (3&1), Adam Oulton (2&1) lost in spirited matches. Mitchell Hughes was able to dig deep and get a great win and a point for Spring Valley. The final score was 3 to 2 Kew’s way.
The youth team now sit second on the ladder heading into the final round and a win would mean a certain finials match. Good luck to the team as they take on Kooringal at Green Acres Golf Club.
