Heatherton Park- Improvement works.
Published on 17th April 2019 in Guests NewsMembers using our Heatherton road entrance will have noticed that the City of Kingston has undertaken soil cover improvement works at the Heatherton Park closed landfill site.
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) is maintaining a state-wide focus on the management of closed landfill sites and these works are to ensure Council maintains a healthy and safe space for residents to continue to enjoy this beautiful local park for years to come.
We have completed an extensive investigation program across the park, to map the existing soil cover over the former landfill area; as such we have found some areas that require additional soil cover to satisfy EPA requirements.
These works are aimed at ensuring compliance with EPA requirements and the park’s ongoing availability to residents.
Works will involve
- Stripping the grass surface, placement of additional soil and re-grassing a number of areas across approximately 20% of the park.
- Existing garden beds, trees and playground areas will not be disturbed.
- Work will be undertaken in stages and the park will remain open throughout the process.
- Active work areas will be fenced.
Safety
- During the summer months, there may be some issues with soil creating a dust hazard; every effort will be made to minimise this by the contractor.
- Please rest assured it will be safe for you and your family to use the park while works are underway.
Noise
- Works will mean large soil moving trucks will move in and out of the park over the nine month period; every effort will be made to ensure trucks minimise the use of residential streets.

At present Management has contacted the Contractors and city of Kingston Council with our concerns of the visual delaminating and deterioration of the road surface.
Management will provide Members with an update shortly.
Works will continue until around late June 2019.
