2018 Bi-Annual Visit of the Grange Golf Club

Players from Spring Valley and the Grange came together to begin the 46th year of competition for The McMillan Shield.
The Legends of the event were acknowledged,Graham Ball who took part in the very 1st visit, Dick Kirby who was in the 2nd visit, Kingsley Robinson from Grange was chalking up his 29th year and Marty Ingham his 19th year involved.
Ties were presented to the 1st time participants from each club, Micheal Hill, Mark Dunstan and Murray Billing(Spring Valley), then the draw was done for the 4BBB stableford comp on the Saturday.
Spring Valley performed very well on the first day with 7 1/2pts to 2 1/2 pts.
The best 4BBB score was Steve Ellis and Mark Dunstan with 43pts.
Best individual was Mark Dunstan S/V 35pts and Craig Martin Grange 33pts.
The draw was then held for the 20 individual matches for the Sunday.
When the teams arrived for the matches the wind was howling, after 3 holes the siren sounded to stop proceedings.With tree branches falling everywhere and not many points amassed players were talking of an exodus to the bar!!
But the conditions eased after 30mins and play resumed.
With the Valley only needing 8pts for a win, the 15 1/2pts to 4 1/2pts amassed put the result well beyond doubt, a 23pts to 7pt victory to the home team.
The best individual score for the Valley was Murray Billing 34pts and the consistent Craig Martin 33pts for the Grange.
Best 4BBB was Steve Ellis and Nick Venditti 40pts.
The best 36 hole individual score and the Silver Salver went to Steve Adams 67pts The runner up was Craig Martin 66pts.
The McMillan Shield was gratefully received by Captain Steve Ellis who thanked everyone for their participation and looked forward to next years trip to Adelaide.
